TITANS SHUTOUT BLITZ

The Titans kicked off their 2014/15 season with a solid 28-0 win over against Plymouth Blitz.

The Titans, playing at home, won the coin toss and gave Plymouth the first possession of the game. Swansea’s defence began where it left off at the end of last year, snuffing the opponents run game and getting their offense onto the field.

Running back Jacob Amadi promptly marched the team down the field for the first score of the game after pulling off a couple of long runs.

The Titans defence continued to dominate against the Blitz pistol offence. The linebacker corps in the Titan’s 3-5 defence was particularly impressive, lead by Defensive captain Adam Salter, the likes of Dave Prince and Amadi were a threat against both pass and run.

Before the half was out, fullback Josh Hughes rumbled down the sideline to set-up the second score of the half. Simon George connected with second year playmaker CJ Caparas to put the home side 12-0 in front after missing both point after attempts.

After receiving the ball at the start of the third quarter, the Titans took an early shot downfield. George hit third year wide out ‘Dutch’, exploiting the Blitz’s aggressive press-man coverage, and finding the endzone on the first play from scrimmage after the half. However, an unnecessary roughness call on the play cancelled TD and sent the offence trudging back down field.

The penalty was somewhat indicative of the day for this unit, who shot themselves in the foot a number of times with avoidable penalties and lapses in concentration.

However, ‘Dutch’ eventually got his touchdown on a goal line fade and George topped off the day with a long rushing touchdown that began in his own half after a pass play broke down.

Plymouth continued to fight hard but had no answer to the heavy pressure dialed up by DC/HC Keyse as the Swansea defense recorded their first shutout of the year.

Keyse reiterated after the game that there were positives to take despite a lot of plays being left on the field. The team now has a bye week followed by a trip to Bath Spa on the 16th of November.
