PRESIDENTS PICKS: WEEK ONE ROUND-UP

Week one of the BUAFL season is in the books and from the looks of it not much has changed. Stirling are still wiping the floor with any team they play in the regular season. Birmingham are returning as national champions and are still the number one team in the MAC after a hard fought 16-9 win over NTU. Finally, UWE seem to have returned looking to take back the number one spot in the SWAC after a strong recruitment class and a convincing 28-0 victory over Cardiff (we enjoyed this result).

A few things that have changed:

WORCESTER ROYALS FINALLY WON A GAME!!! This is Worcester’s 5th competitive season and after a 32 game losing streak they won their first ever game 10-6 over the Nottingham Outlaws.

Durham are no longer the whipping boys of the North East! The University of Durham put some heavy emphasis in recruiting Americans with NCAA experience last season to help them on a successful BUCS campaign and it seems to have worked. Team USA won convincingly 59-7 against Sunderland.

We have a new Devon Bowl Champion! In the tightest game of the SWAC Exeter managed to overcome Plymouth & reclaim the Devon Bowl with a 28-12 victory!

Looking at the Presidents Picks league table after week one it is very similar to the current BUAFL BUCS standings! Out in front we have Swansea, UWE, Bath & Exeter while lagging behind there is winless Cardiff, Plymouth, Bath Spa & Aberystwyth (although the latter two teams are still yet to play in the league).
