TITANS BLOWOUT UWE IN HISTORIC WIN

The Titans had previously never beaten the UWE bullets, a team which boasts a history and set-up that the Titans can hope to emulate over the coming years. However, this past Sunday the boys in green and white made history by beating the bullets 41-0 in what turned into a blowout victory.

Going into the tie the Titans were keen to bounce straight back from a disappointing defeat the week before to Barracuda and stake their claim to be the top team in the South West. The Titans lost the coin toss and were given the ball to start the tie.

Both teams exchanged punts in the first quarter, neither team showing too much on offense with the game looking like it may be a low scoring affair. However, the Titans adjusted quickest and managed to draw first blood after long rushes from Josh Hughes and Jacob Amadi.

The second quarter was going Swansea’s way as Josh Hughes ran in the 2nd TD of the day and Rhodri Pritchard-Jones, Adam Salter and Dave Prince all picked off the Bullets QB. Prince’s pick would of gone for 6 had one of his fellow defenders not been called for a block in the back across the other side of the field. Despite a late rally from UWE, the Titans held on and went into the half at 14-0.

After a couple of punts for either team in the third quarter, the Titans began to dominate upfront and QB Simon George capitalised with a rush to the endzone. When the Titans O got back on to the field George made it 2 rushing TDs and the game looked out of sight at 28-0.

On the other side of the ball, David Ponting got one and Adam Salter snaffled another pick while Michael Mwale and George Downs-Wheeler got consistent pressure on the Bullets QB. George then threw to CJ Caparas for his 3rd TD reception on the year, boosting the Titans passing game which had an up and down day.

As the game fizzled out and both teams rotated their squads, HC Nick Keyse put Francis Emmanuel Pankhurst in at QB and allowed him to throw one up for grabs. In somewhat of a bizarre ending to a very competitive game George, playing at WR, came down with the ball for his first TD reception for the Titans and left Pankhurst with a perfect passer rating.

The Titans will need to forget this game quickly as they have a big test against the Exeter Demons this coming Sunday.
