Titans Shutout Demons To Go 2 & 0

The second week of the 2015/16 season saw the SwanseaTitans host an Exeter Demons team buoyant after their smashing of Aberystwyth 54-0. The half started with the Titans in possession of the ball but the game quickly stopped as a Demon’s defensive player suffered a serious neck injury which caused a long delay while he received medical attention. Once the play restarted the Titans continued their drive with some nice plays that ended with a touchdown which was disallowed on a holding call. With the offence failing to convert again, the Titans were forced to punt which brought the arrival of the defense who put up tremendously throughout the whole game with a strong offense who had put up such a large score only a week ago.  The Demons were forced to punt and this remained a theme for the whole game the as Titans defense stayed solidly in control with some brilliant tackles coming from all angles. The first quarter ended with a great catch deep in the secondary by WR Joe Cotterill, in which he nearly with his own player, to give the Titans some good field position.

The second quarter started well for the Titans and was set to be their most profitable. This was kicked off by a great running touchdown by RB Jacob Amadi and was quickly followed by the two point conversion giving the Titans a deserved 8-0 lead. The Titans defense remained resolute and held off the Demons to give our offense good time on the ball. With our strong running game and some great catches the offense was able to move into dangerous field positions with their hard work paying off as Amadi ran in another touchdown, this time with the extra point converted by Darren Quinn. Titans lead 15-0. The following kickoff was fumbled by the Demon’s returning team and collected by Dave Prince giving the Titans possession once again and setting us up for our third touchdown of the quarter, a pass from QB Sam Huxtable to WR CJ Caparas with Quinn again converting the extra point. This took the Titans into the break with a 22-0 lead.

The second half continued as the first had finished, with the Titans in control and playing very well. While no points were scored in the third quarter there were some good spells of position and some great plays from the defense.

The fourth quarter was the only other quarter with points scored by the Titans with Huxtable running in a long run down the sideline with the two points being converted shortly after putting the Titans 30-0 up at which the score stayed for the remainder of the match. Exeter’s offense had a great showing and they put on a strong drive at the end of the match to put the Titan’s defense under pressure but time wasn’t on their side and the game finished with the Titans winning a hard fought game against a strong Exeter team and continuing their unbeaten run for the season. A special commendation to the Titan’s Linebackers and Defensive line that held firm against a very physical and tough offence giving the Titans their first shut out of the season. We now have a bye week before we look forward to our return fixture against the UWE Bullets where the Titans look to keep top of a competitive western conference.

This week’s MVPs are LB Tom Mann, DL Gareth Abbott-Haigh and RB Jacob Amadi
